Crescent Of Eid Makes Me Weep ( Iqbal's verse on crescent of Eid )

Crescent Of Eid Makes Me Weep
[ On demand for writing a verse on crescent of Eid ]

In the Shalamar garden a dried leaf was saying thus,*
“That spring season is gone whose confidant I am,

Trample me not! O the visitors of the garden!
I am the memorial of the branches of their nests”,

A little leaf made my heart impatient,
Even in garden I am entirely grief-stricken of spring,

In the autumn memory of the spring makes me weep,
How I can celebrate Eid as I am aggrieved,

Memorials of the olden times are deserted,
I am memorial of the personalities of the past,

Message of merriment is heralded by crescent of Eid,
We the Muslims are ridiculed by crescent of Eid.

·        The poet was very much aggrieved at the estate of defeat and helplessness of the Turkish  empire. So he wrote this mourning.
·         The Shalamar garden was built by the architect Moghul Emperor, Shahjehan, in 1632 in Lahore. It is the symbol of the Muslim grandeur.
